Tranexamic acid is used to treat heavy blood loss during menstruation, post surgery and severe nose bleeds. It works by slowing down the breakdown of blood clots.
More recently tranexamic acid has been shown to be very effective against melasma, particularly in people with dark skins. It has been described as a ‘game changer’ by the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology in 2018 after a study found that 90% of participants had results similar to laser treatment.
Tranexamic acid has been used as a skin lightener for many many years in Japan, Korea and Singapore and is an ingredient in many cosmetic skin creams there.
Tranexamic acid is supplied by Relimeds in strips of 10 as Trapic 500mg by Sun Pharma.
