Uses
Modalert by Sun Pharma (Modafinil) is a central stimulant, chemically related to adrafinil, primarily used to treat excessive daytime sleepiness linked to narcolepsy, obstructive sleep apnea, and shift-work sleep disorder. It is also popular as a cognitive enhancer (nootropic) and for several off-label uses such as managing ADHD, depression, chronic fatigue syndrome, Parkinson’s disease, fibromyalgia, multiple sclerosis, cerebral palsy, and even promoting weight loss.
Dosage and Administration
For narcolepsy or obstructive sleep apnea, Modafinil is typically taken orally in doses ranging from 200 to 400 mg daily, either in two divided doses (morning and midday) or as a single dose in the morning. For shift-work sleep disorder, a 200 mg dose should be taken one hour before the start of work. Elderly patients should begin with a lower dose of 100 mg daily, adjusting as needed.
